Sultan’s third child may be crown prince
KUANTAN: Tengku Panglima Besar Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Sultan Abdullah could be made Tengku Mahkota Pahang.
Sources said this was because it was tradition for the sultan’s eldest son to be the crown prince.
Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah was born on Sept 17, 1995, at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.
He is the third child of Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
“According to tradition, the Tengku Panglima Besar is appointed Tengku Mahkota Pahang, but an announcement will be made by Sultan Abdullah only after the proclamation ceremony tomorrow.
“If there are special circumstances (such as Sultan Abdullah being elected king), the Tengku Mahkota would have to be appointed regent of Pahang.
“In that case, Sultan Abdullah may appoint a special council as the Tengku Panglima Besar is furthering his studies at the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy in the United Kingdom for a year.
“The council may be put in place for between one and five years, depending on the sultan. Its members will be determined by the sultan,” the sources said.
