570kg of syabu seized from container lorry
KUALA LUMPUR: A container lorry laden with more than half a tonne of syabu was believed to be heading for Penang Port when it was seized by Narcotics Department policemen on Saturday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said a portion of the drugs was to be shipped overseas via the port.
He said three people had been arrested.
“The arrest of of the 40-yearold driver and the seizure of the 569.5kg syabu were made at the Taiping rest area.
“In follow-up raids, we arrested a 49-year-old man in Ipoh and a 39-year-old at the Bidor toll plaza.
“We seized a four-wheel-drive and RM1,768 in cash,” he said at the federal police headquarters at Bukit Aman here.
Fuzi said the suspects had been remanded for seven days until Saturday.
“We are investigating the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act for trafficking. We are trying to determine where the drugs came from.”
It was reported that a team from Bukit Aman’s Narcotics Department had tailed the lorry, based on a tip-off that the vehicle was filled with drugs, before making the seizure.
