5 nabbed for smuggling drugs into Simpang Renggam Prison

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have taken down a syndicate smuggling drugs into the Simpang Renggam Prison with the arrests of five men in Johor on Saturday.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said police seized drugs worth RM814,000 from the men, aged between 26 and 30.

“On Jan 12, Narcotics Department police from (federal police headquarte­rs in) Bukit Aman and their Johor counterpar­ts launched two raids in Johor between 7pm and 11pm.

“During the raids, we arrested five men and seized 9.88kg of drugs believed to be syabu, 16.4kg of heroin and 940 Ecstasy pills.

“Police seized two cars, three motorcycle­s, jewellery and RM22,000 in cash.

“The estimated value of the seizures is RM189,000.

“The arrests of the suspects are a follow-up to that of four other members of the syndicate last year. They are believed to have been supplying drugs to the Simpang Renggam Prison since 2017.”

Present was federal Narcotics Department director Datuk Mohmad Salleh.
