MACC arrests former Johor MP over graft involving RM230,000
JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday arrested a former member of parliament with the title Datuk in connection with two corruption cases involving cash and land worth RM230,000.
According to sources, the 56year-old man, who was a former member of the board of directors of Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), was arrested at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 12.40pm.
“He is expected to be charged at the Sessions Court here tomorrow (today),” MACC said in a statement.
It is understood that the man had used his Felda position to propose and approve the appointment of a printing company, in which he is believed to have an interest, for the publication of the 1Suara di Felda newspaper from 2012 to 2015 for RM13 million.
In return, the man received a bribe of RM50,000 in cash in 2013, and in 2014 received a piece of land in Mukim Kota Tinggi, Johor worth about RM180,000.
MACC deputy commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki confirmed the arrest and said that the man faced two charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code.
