MACC arrests former Johor MP over graft involving RM230,000

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday arrested a former member of parliament with the title Datuk in connection with two corruption cases involving cash and land worth RM230,000.

According to sources, the 56year-old man, who was a former member of the board of directors of Federal Land Developmen­t Authority (Felda), was arrested at the MACC headquarte­rs in Putrajaya at 12.40pm.

“He is expected to be charged at the Sessions Court here tomorrow (today),” MACC said in a statement.

It is understood that the man had used his Felda position to propose and approve the appointmen­t of a printing company, in which he is believed to have an interest, for the publicatio­n of the 1Suara di Felda newspaper from 2012 to 2015 for RM13 million.

In return, the man received a bribe of RM50,000 in cash in 2013, and in 2014 received a piece of land in Mukim Kota Tinggi, Johor worth about RM180,000.

MACC deputy commission­er (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki confirmed the arrest and said that the man faced two charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code.
