- Abdul Aziz Mahanum

KUALA LUMPUR: Zurich Takaful Malaysia Bhd is optimistic of having registered a strong growth last year after its outstanding performance in the first nine months of the year.

Zurich Malaysia life insurance and family takaful general manager Mukesh Dhawan said it recorded a rapid growth in the number of agents to about 7,000.

He said Zurich’s takaful business recorded a 29 per cent growth in the first nine months, compared with the same period a year ago. That was its best performance in the past few years.

“We foresee that this growth momentum will continue. We want to increase the number of agencies and diversify our products,” he said in an interview, here, recently.

Zurich Takaful was ranked fourth among 11 family takaful players up to September last year.

Dhawan said the company was confident that its latest product, Takaful Mumtaz, would contribute significantly to sales.

He said Takaful Mumtaz was a unique plan based on the concept of “protection economy”, where customers could enjoy annual cash returns of 18 to 48 per cent over the 16-year period.

He said applications for Takaful Mumtaz did not require health checks and, therefore, was easier for people to sign up.

“Takaful Mumtaz is a smart plan that offers customers a short period of contribution of eight years for them to enjoy long-term protection and savings for 16 years,” he added.
