July decision on one agency to manage checkpoint operations

-

JOHOR BARU: The government will make a decision soon on the proposal to create a single agency to manage checkpoint operations on the Causeway and Second Link.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman said a study on the proposal was being carried out, which was expected to take about six months.

“Once the study has been completed, it will be presented to the government. We hope a decision can be made in July,” he said after a visit to the Sultan Iskandar Building customs, immigration and quarantine complex here yesterday.

Present were Immigration Department director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud and Stulang assemblyman Andrew Chen Kah Eng, who heads a task force to monitor the congestion.

The setting up of a single agency to manage the checkpoints was one of 11 recommendations made by the task force.

A total of 326,000 crossings are recorded at the two checkpoints daily.
