-

JEMPOL: A Pakistani man was burnt to death when the van he was driving was involved in an accident with a three-tonne lorry and burst into flames at a junction in Felda Palong Tiga here yesterday.

The victim, Mujahid Shah, 23, was pinned to his seat when the vehicle caught fire. He died on the spot in the 8.41am incident.

Jempol district police chief Superintendent Muhd Nur Hishamuddin Hashim said investigations showed the victim was heading towards Pasir Besar and was making a right turn to Felda Palong Tiga.

“The lorry, which was coming from Felda Palong Empat, was unable to avoid the van and crashed into the vehicle.

“The impact of the accident caused both vehicles to burst into flames,” he said.

Muhd Nur Hishamuddin said the lorry driver, V. Nanthakumar, 31, however, managed to escape from his vehicle.

Mujahid’s body was sent to the Jempol Hospital for a postmortem.

“Mujahid’s elder brother was present to identify his siblings,” he said.

The case, he said, was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.
