MUHYIDDIN: IGP ON OFFICIAL TRIP TO TURKEY
Fuzi to learn methods to combat online gambling, says home minister
THE Home Ministry has refuted a report on an online portal claiming that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun was on a personal trip to Turkey.
Its minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said Fuzi was on an official visit to the country to learn methods to combat online gambling.
He said the trip was sponsored by Malaysian Totalisator Board, an agency under the Finance Ministry, and it had been approved.
“Initially, I had reservations about the work visit and if it was appropriate (for the IGP), but after careful consideration I decided to allow him to go.
“He is there to learn methods to curb online gambling from other countries.
“It is important for the police force to know more about this to eradicate the vice,” he said during a visit to the General Operations Force 4th Battalion Complex here yesterday.
Muhyiddin said he was not informed about the number of officials for the trip.
On Sunday, an online portal reported that several Bukit Aman top officers, including Fuzi, were on a personal trip to Turkey.
The report claimed that Fuzi was accompanied by 17 other police officers on the trip and that they departed for the country on Feb 7.
