DETAINEES’ KIN IN CAMBODIA TODAY
Delegation led by Julau MP Larry Sng includes media reps, medical officer
REPRESENTATIVES of three families are expected to meet their loved ones detained in Poipet, Banteay Meanchey, in Cambodia today.
The delegation led by Julau member of parliament Larry Sng is expected to depart at 6.45am from Kuala Lumpur to Siem Reap.
They will head to the detention centre located in the outskirts, which is about three hours from the city.
Together with four media representatives from Sarawak, the trip is aimed at assisting the families to visit the detainees and to check on their condition at the lock-up.
It was learnt that a medical officer is in the delegation and will carry out medical checks on the detainees, if it is permitted.
They are scheduled to return to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.
A total of 44 Sarawakians who had been promised jobs in Cambodia were placed in private homes as soon as they arrived.
Later, they were arrested by the Cambodian authorities on Dec 11 for being allegedly involved in online gaming operations.
More than 10 people were invited to attend a briefing by the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Sarawak director, Deddy Faisal Ahmad Salleh, at the department’s office at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here yesterday.
Some were seen sobbing when leaving the building at 2pm after a two-hour closed-door session, while others quickly left the scene to avoid reporters.
A woman who refused to be named said the briefing was an update on the progress of the situation.
However, they were told not to reveal any information.
