Msu medical centre to care, heal and educate
THE Management and Science University Medical Centre (MSUMC), which has officially open its door to the public, will benefit residents of Shah Alam and its surrounding areas.
Through its tag line “Caring, Healing, Educating”, the facility provides the latest and comprehensive medical facilities and services to its patients. This is realised via Management and Science University’s (MSU) involvement in medicine and higher education.
The centre, which has clinical training facilities, serves as a teaching hospital, especially to the university’s International
Medical School students.
MSUMC can accommodate up to 250 patients.
MSU president Professor Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab
Yajid said MSUMC was the final project under the university’s development plan.
He said the centre focused on four key areas — internal and external patients, corporate, and students.
“The centre has six surgical rooms, five intensive care units, six maternity rooms, eye and dental treatment facilities, as well as specialist clinics.
“MSU hopes to provide a comprehensive healthcare system in the country, as well as become a global healthcare provider in the future,” he said at a press conference held in conjunction with the soft launch on the first day of MSUMC’s operations recently.
Shukri presented free spectacles to orphans from Rumah Kasih Harmoni, Pusat Jagaan Baitul Hidayah, Rumah Siraman Kasih, Madrasah Anak Yatim and Tahfiz Quran Hashimiah, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Rumah Anak Yatim, Asnaf As-Solihin, Home of Hope Al-Khadeem, Pusat Jagaan Baitul Hidayah, as well as the Orang Asli communities from Kampung Orang Asli Rasau Hilir and Kampung Orang Asli Desa Temuan in Bukit Lanjan, Selangor.
The initiative was part of the Prevention of Blindness programme, which was organised by the Department of Optometry and Visual Science under the university’s Faculty of Health and Life Science.
Present at the soft launch event were MSU vice-chancellor Professor Puan Sri Dr Junainah Abd Hamid, MSUMC chief executive officer Datuk Nasharuddin Shukor and MSUMC health director Datuk Dr Lailanor Ibrahim.
Shukri said the centre was built to cater to distinctive areas of diagnosis and treatment, from general medicine, surgery, traditional Chinese medicine and allied therapies, to rehabilitation, nursing and pharmacy. He said specialisations include internal medicine; obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatric, ophthalmology; otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose, throat) and head and neck; orthopaedics, traumatology and rehabilitation, anaesthesiology and intensive care, psychiatry, radiology, pathology, urology, endoscopy, and dentistry.
In strengthening its role of providing community healthcare, MSUMC had organised activities, such as health checks, diet and physiology briefing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation demonstration, mammogram and magnetic resonance imaging screenings.
