Repent, stop slander, Pas told

-

PUTRAJAYA: Pas should repent, stop spreading slander and propagating fake news against the federal government, said Bukit Mertajam member of parliament Steven Sim Chee Keong yesterday.

The Penang DAP publicity secretary claimed that there were organised efforts by Pas members to create perceptions that DAP was anti-Islam and antiMalay.

Sim, who is also deputy youth and sports minister, made the statement following an article, which was published by an online portal titled “Guan Eng akan bunuh perniagaan Melayu” (Guan Eng will kill Malay businesses), which was shared by Rantau Panjang MP Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof of Pas on social media.

“Even though the post was later removed, it shows efforts to establish perceptions that DAP is anti-Islam and anti-Malay.

“This is following the cooperation between Umno and Pas to continuously put DAP in a negative light among the Malay community for their own political gain.

“When the country was focused on Umno’s scandals, the UmnoPas pact tried to divert attention through its slander and rumours pertaining to religious matters.

“This is to aggravate anger towards DAP,” he said.

Sim said the truth was that the Finance Ministry, led by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, had never implemented any policies against the Malay community, as alleged by Umno and Pas.

He called on Pas to criticise government policies in a more constructive manner.

“As an opposition in the era of New Malaysia, they should not slander to win the support of the people.”
