Banking on Nuraini to deliver

- Naqib Nor Said

Nuraini Rashid will be counted on for goals from penalty corners when they face Terengganu Ladies in today’s Vivian May Soars Cup return match at the Tengku Abdullah Stadium in Bangi.

In the first leg on Tuesday, Terengganu Ladies bounced back to notch a 4-2 win in Kuala Lumpur.

UniTen coach Lailin Abu Hassan said Nuraini holds the key in today’s match.

“Overall, it will be a difficult game as the pitch in Bangi is bumpy, so scoring from open play will be tough.

“The target is to earn as many penalty corners and score from them.

“Nuraini is good in penalty corners, so I hope she will be able to convert them.

“I believe we have a good chance of overturning the deficit,” said Lailin.

UniTen, the 2017 league champions, are regarded as the most prolific team in terms of scoring from penalty corners with 19 of 38 goals coming from set-pieces.

Nuraini, a national player, said: “We need to take our chances.

“In the first leg, we were unlucky as we not only failed to convert our opportunities but also conceded soft goals,” said the defender who has scored eight goals so far this year.

Liaoning will be defending their 2-1 lead when they take on Police Blue Warriors in the other semi-final return leg.
