- Zarina Zakariah

KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) president and chief executive officer (CEO) Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin has made into Brand Finance’s top 100 Brand Guardians list this year, coming in at 95th spot.

Wan Zulkiflee, who was appointed as CEO of the national oil company on April 1 2015, was named “Best Guardian” alongside other big names such as Amazon.com Inc’s Jeff Bezos, Google’s Sundar Pichai and Shell’s Ben van Beurden.

He is recognised for his visionary leadership, prudent management and successful track record in steering the national oil and gas company through some of the most turbulent and challenging years in recent times.

“Based on the world’s top companies by portfolio brand value, extracted from the Brand Finance Global 500 2019, the new ranking rates CEOs to capture how well they measure up as brand managers,” said the company in a statement yesterday.

“Brand Finance’s ranking rates the CEO’s success in marketing investment, stakeholder equity, and business performance.”

Wan Zulkiflee’s inclusion in the Top 100 list complements Petronas’ climb up this year’s Top 500 Most Valuable Brands list, moving up to No. 127 from No. 132 last year.
