Bleak future for Tasmanian rainforest
HOBART (Australia): Tasmania’s ancient rainforest and alpine flora species face an uncertain future, scientists warned, after bushfires consumed vast tracts of bushland. As authorities downgraded emergency warnings yesterday, with wet weather bringing respite from more than a month of rolling fires, scientists warned they are still assessing the damage. Wildfires have scorched over 205,000ha of land on the island, which are believed to be fuelled by climate change.
