POLICE have crippled a drug syndicate with the seizure of more than 70kg of drugs at a mini drug processing laboratory on Saturday.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said police conducted three simultaneous raids in Butterworth, Ayer Itam and Jelutong, and arrested four men, in their 30s and 40s, including the 49-year-old syndicate head.

He said police raided a residence in Taman Sentral, Butterworth, at 9.20am where they discovered the drug lab and detained two syndicate members.

“Here, police seized 33.8kg of heroin, 745g of heroin base, 44.8kg of caffeine powder and 550g of chemical liquids used to process the drugs.

“We believe the drugs were meant for the local market,” he said at the state police contingent headquarters here yesterday afternoon.

He said police raided an apartment in Ayer Itam, where they detained the syndicate leader and arrested another man at a residence in Jelutong.

He said no seizures were made at the two locations.

He said police seized RM8,000 and four cars worth RM392,000.

The four suspects have been remanded until Saturday and the case is being investigated under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
