Water, water everywhere

-

WHEN it comes to cleansing, I have always been a soap and water kind of girl.

As far as I’m concerned, if there’s no foam, there’s no cleaning taking place.

Needless to say, cream or soap free cleansers have never been on my bathroom shelf. Instead, I stock up on gel or foaming facial cleansers.

But over the years, I have realised that my skin feels rather dry after a wash due to these types of cleansers.

What worked well in my twenties when my skin was very oily is no longer suitable on my forty-something skin.

Micellar cleansing water is very much in trend now as many women have become hooked on this more natural way to cleanse the face. Many brands have their version of this popular product.

It’s usually a light and gentle formulation which can remove make-up, cleanse and tone all at once.

Safi Micellar Natural Cleansing Water has 100 per cent natural active ingredients and comes in three variations — Rose, Neem and Cucumber.

Rose caters to those with normal or combination skin while Neem is for oily and acne prone skin and Cucumber, for The name originates from the ruins of a French castle called Chateau du Lancosme. Lancome founder Armand Petitjean visited the castle while on holiday and saw yellow flowers on the grounds.

These yellow flowers inspired the iconic flower logo synonymous with the brand. all skin types.

I tried the Rose version given that I have combination skin. It’s supposed to be able to cleanse make-up and impuribut ties in just a single round of swiping ov the face.

It looked and felt a lot like a toner when I swiped it over my face using a cotton pad, it certainly did a good job of removing my make-up, even the rather heavy compact powder I was using.

But I didn’t feel clean enough with just one round of cleansing (maybe it’s the soap and water habit) so I used another cotton pad to give my skin a second round of wiping with the cleansing water.

I felt much better after doing that. My skin felt clean without looking tight or taut. It also looked refreshed.

The drawback is that it takes time to cleanse your face this way and you have to stock up on facial cotton.

I have always washed my face using a foaming cleanser while standing under the shower to save time.

However, there are benefits in taking things slow. After a few weeks, I got used to this way of cleansing and really liked the fact that my skin didn’t look dehydrated all the time anymore.

The formulation was also gentle enough for cleansing the under eye area and the soft rose scent made the cleansing experience very pleasant.

Perhaps it’s time to ditch my foamgoodness ing f ourites and take on the splashing of water. Obviously, my skin would agree.

Safi Micellar Natural Cleansing Water is priced at RM17.25 (200ml) and available at selected pharmacies and supermarkets in Malaysia.
