Replacement head coach to be named by month’s end
Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) will likely secure a replacement for outgoing national head coach Peter Genever by the end of the month.
SRAM director of coaching Major (rtd) S. Maniam said the national body have already whittled down their options to two coaches and are now awaiting further action from the National Sports Council (NSC).
“We have already short-listed two coaches. I am not able to name them at the moment, but one is from Australia and the other from Canada,” said Maniam.
“One of them is a former world champion while the other is a well-established coach.
“We will name the (selected) coach by the end of the month.
“I have already written in to NSC requesting for support.
“They (NSC) told me to inform them once we identify the replacement for Genever and they will proceed from there.
“I have told them who is our preferred choice, the salary package and all the other details. We will now let them come back to us.
“The new coach will start work on April 1, until then I will manage with the team (of coaches) I have at the moment.”
Genever, whose contract expires on Feb 28, has coached Malaysia for the last seven years.
He wants to return England with his family.
