QSR Brands, AIR install water recycling plant
PORT KLANG: QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd has become the first manufacturer in Malaysia to install a syariah-compliant water recycling plant.
The newly-upgraded wastewater treatment plant and the installation of a recycling plant at Ayamas Food Corp factory is part of QSR Brand’s 13-year collaboration with Aliran Ihsan Resources Bhd (AIR).
“The endeavour is in line with the firm’s halal principles,” said QSR Brands managing director Datuk Seri Mohamed Azahari Mohamed Kamil, here, yesterday.
“Being a halal food provider is not just about how you cut the meat, but also the cleanliness and the sustainability of the factory.
“Through this collaboration with AIR, QSR Brands will now boast a sustainable and syariahcompliant water recycling plant,” he said.
AIR chairman Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh said the pact would reduce the plant’s dependency on city water supply by 25 per cent.
“This will help substantially with our operational costs,” he said, adding that it had invested RM4 million for the project.
“QSR Brands will be paying us back for the next 13 years. This agreement works for us as it will provide us with long-term recurring income,” he added.
Che Khalid said the technology used for the project was a combination of ultra-filtration membrane with biological wastewater treatment process, also known as the membrane bio-reactor, for the upgrading works and a polishing system for the recycling plant.
“The ultra-filtration uses Jakim’s halal-certified activated carbon membrane application with pore sizes in the range of 0.1 to 0.001 micron which enable the removal of suspended matter, bacteria, and viruses,” he added .
QSR Brands and AIR are in discussions to introduce similar technology at QSR Brands’ plant in Johor.
