WOMAN KILLED IN TUAS CIQ COMPLEX CRASH
Singaporean authorities did not reveal 35-year-old’s name and nationality
SINGAPOREAN authorities have confirmed that a woman was killed in an accident involving a factory bus at the Tuas Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex on Monday.
The Singapore Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) said the woman was 35 years old, but it did not reveal her nationality nor her name.
ICA said the heavy vehicle lane, which was closed following the accident at 4.21am, was reopened at 10am yesterday.
Bernama reported that a person was killed and 16 others were injured in the accident, which blocked buses and lorries from entering the checkpoint.
“Buses and lorries were unable to enter the checkpoint, while departure traffic was affected due to buses and lorries being diverted to Malaysia,” ICA said.
The Straits Times reported that the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to a call for assistance at 4.25am to the accident site where a bus had crashed.
“A body was found and 16 other casualties were sent to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and National University Hospital,” SCDF was quoted as saying.
It is understood that the bus driver was among those injured. Four people who sustained minor injuries declined to be sent to hospital.
Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said state police had yet to receive any information from the Singaporean authorities.
“I will ask the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department to check with them (Singaporean authorities) for more information.”
