Kuan vows to continue helping underprivileged
SEMENYIH: Independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng is hopeful for the future despite losing in the Semenyih by-election.
On his Facebook page, Kuan said he fulfilled one of his ambitions by contesting in an election.
Kuan, who got 725 votes, said he thought he would get only 50 to 100 votes as an independent candidate.
“I knew I would lose, but I got to do what I always wanted to do,” he said, adding that he believed in championing the rights of the poor, the sick and the bullied.
“It does not matter that I did not win, but I am happy because I managed to contest in a by-election as someone with only an SPM qualification. What is important is to always believe in yourself.”
He reassured his supporters that he had created a network for the underprivileged in Semenyih.
Kuan thanked Paka-tan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and Parti Sosialis Malaysia supporters for their kind gestures throughout the campaign period.
“I have fulfilled one of my own dreams — to run in an election. Thank you, mum and dad. Rest well in heaven. I did my best.”
He said he planned to contest the Puchong parliamentary seat in the next general election.
Earlier, Kuan said his next project was to publish a book.
Kuan is known for his humanitarian work, such as offering an ambulance service for just 10 sen and offering rooms for RM1 in the Puchong area.
Meanwhile, PH candidate Muhammad Aiman Zainali said he would continue to offer his services to help the people despite his defeat.
“My journey does not end here. I will not forget Semenyih. The fight for the Semenyih agenda will continue. I will not forget the voters and I thank those who voted.”
