APAD to meet firms on licence application
KUALA LUMPUR: The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) will meet e-hailing companies this week to explain the application process for the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said many drivers had applied for the licence and some had obtained approval.
“We are in touch with e-hailing companies. A meeting will be held between APAD and the ehailing companies this week,” he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby here yesterday.
The Road Transport Department (RTD), in a recent statement, had said beginning yesterday, e-hailing drivers could start applying for their PSV licences, which would be made mandatory soon.
RTD had said drivers could register for the licence at any driving academy or e-hailing driving centre approved by the department.
“The implementation (of this regulation) involves all e-hailing drivers and vehicles that act as a public transport vehicle.
“In line with this, all e-hailing drivers are to be regarded as being on the same level as drivers of taxis, rented cars and luxury taxis,” it said last week.
With this, e-hailing vehicles would have to display a special sticker that will be issued by the e-hailing operator in accordance with the department’s guidelines.
