AMID the lawsuit against Melaka United Soccer Association (MUSA) over the tragic death of 18-year-old goalkeeper Stefan Petrovski, the Super League outfit have chosen not to say much.
MUSA’s stand is that they prefer not to issue any media statement now as they do not want to make the situation worse.
MUSA deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi confirmed yesterday that the club had received the legal papers from Stefan’s father, Marco Petrovski earlier this year.
“Yes, we did receive the court papers earlier this year, and we have appointed a lawyer,” he said.
Meanwhile, MUSA general secretary Farhan Ibrahim said although he was not holding the MUSA post when the incident happened. he stressed that they will take responsibility.
“We have to take the responsibility of solving this matter and have asked our legal department to take care of the matter but I cannot comment further,” said Farhan.
Australian Marco has told Timesport that he is suing MUSA and FAM on the basis of negligence after Stefan died of hypoxic ischemia encephalopathy (brain damage) on May 1, 2016 after he was struck by lightning on April 5, 2016.
A devastated Petrovski is suing MUSA for AU$222,000 (RM645,000) in damages.
This covers the remainder of Stefan’s salary, as stipulated in his player’s contract, MUSA’s failure to comply with all the duties stipulated in the regulations which include ensuring their training facilities are fit and safe for training purposes, not having proper medical facilities and not having doctors or qualified medical practitioners around.
He is also suing FAM for failure to assess, inspect or verify MUSA’s compliance with the club licensing regulations before issuing MUSA with a licence.
