DPM, ministers strongly condemn attacks

DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail condemned the attacks that have left scores dead and injured in Sri Lanka.

“Easter is a joyous occasion for Christians and to commit such an act on such a day or any day is truly condemnabl­e.

“Our prayers are with Sri Lankans during this difficult period,” she said in a Twitter posting yesterday.

Port Dickson member of parliament Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described the attacks on churches and hotels as “a horrible and senseless tragedy” on social media.

“A horrible and senseless tragedy on a holy day of our Christian friends.

“Our thoughts and prayers are

with the victims and their mourning families, just as our support is with the government in bringing the perpetrato­rs to justice.”

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali expressed sadness over the attacks.

Condemning the attacks, he called for swift action to bring the perpetrato­r to justice.

Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar expressed shock and concern about the tragedy.

“Together with my fellow cabinet members, I would like to condemn in the strongest terms the senseless and brutal attacks aimed at the masses in light of today’s (yesterday’s) religious occasion.

“Hopefully, the Sri Lankan government will nab the perpetrato­rs and bring them to justice the soonest,” he said in a statement.

Dr Xavier also conveyed his condolence­s to the Sri Lankan government and its people for their loss.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said terrorism had no faith and colour, labelling the blasts as “cowardly and inhumane”.

“To my friends in Sri Lanka, my prayers are with you. Humanity must prevail over terrorism,” he said in a Twitter posting.

Klang member of parliament Charles Santiago called the attacks “outrageous”, saying that acts such as these should be condemned.
