Govt housing scheme properties to be inspected once every 5 years
KUALA LUMPUR: All landed and multilevel properties under government housing schemes will be monitored and inspected once every five years.
Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said this was provided for under the new National Housing Policy 2018-2015, which was formulated to ensure the safety of households at the respective properties.
“We have this new policy in place where every (public housing) property will be monitored once in five years.
“It does not mean that the properties will only be monitored after reaching 30 years and above,” she said, adding that focus would be given to hillside properties.
She was speaking after attending a technical briefing by Malaysian Public Works Institute, and Z and A consulting firm on the safety of Block F in Taman Keramat Permai near here yesterday.
Z and A is an independent consultant appointed by the Selangor State Development Corporation to conduct inspection at the five-storey block.
Present was Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who is Gombak member of parliament.
Under the policy, Zuraida said the government was empowered to rebuild flats that were older than 30 years and deemed not safe for residents.
However, she could not furnish details on the number of such flats since the ministry was engaging with state governments over the matter.
“I believe most flats in Ampang are as old as the Taman Keramat Permai flats,” she added.
On the case involving Block F, she said a survey was being conducted to differentiate between owners and renters.
“The same survey is being conducted at the other 11 blocks of the flats.”
