EX-MINISTER’S FORMER AIDE HELD FOR GRAFT
50-year-old Datuk had allegedly received kickbacks for ministry’s projects in 2017, says MACC
THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a former special officer of an ex-cabinet minister on suspicion of receiving kickbacks over
the ministry’s projects, including the supply of aircraft equipment worth RM1.8 million in 2017. A source told the New Straits
Times that the man, a Datuk, was detained at noon yesterday at the MACC headquarters here when he was summoned to have his statement recorded.
“Preliminary investigation had revealed that the 50-year-old Datuk had allegedly received kickbacks from several contractor companies as an inducement to secure projects in supplying equipment via direct negotiations with a ministry.
“This included the supply of aircraft equipment, estimated to be worth about RM1.8 million in 2017.”
The source added that the graft busters were tracking down more people, including supplier companies nationwide, who were allegedly involved with the said Datuk.
When contacted, MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations), Datuk Seri Azam Baki confirmed the arrest.
He said the investigation was being conducted under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009. The commission would be applying for a remand order against the former special officer in the magistrate’s court here today.
