WITH Hari Raya Aidilfitri around the corner, Puspakom Sdn Bhd (Puspakom) is seeing an increase in the number of vehicles coming in for checkups.

Puspakom chief executive officer Shukor Ismail said the increase in vehicle check-ups for the festive season boded well as it shows that motorists prioritised safety.

“As we get closer to Hari Raya, there is an increase in the number of vehicles getting checked. For this Hari Raya campaign, Puspakom has targeted an increase of 10 per cent of total private vehicles turning up for the free inspection.

“Last year, 2,500 vehicles benefited from the free inspection. This is a good development as vehicles owners are taking more responsibility for their safety.

“Puspakom is running its free voluntary vehicle inspection programme

for Hari Raya from May 24 to June 2. Since the programme started, Puspakom has serviced more than 1,000 cars. This is a sign that people want to ensure their cars are safe for the long journey.

“We want to inform customers that those who come for the free check-ups will be prioritised and they don’t need to wait in a queue.”

The vehicles will be put through a 25-point vehicle test inspection that includes brake test, tyre test, suspension test and smoke emission test. At the end of it, Puspakom will give out the test results as reference for owners when they go to a mechanic.

“It is important for drivers to get their vehicles checked before long-distance trips. Vehicle inspection enables you to detect potential defects in the vehicle.”

He urged motorists to take advantage of the free check as usually cars would be charged RM50 for check-ups.

“Puspakom has pledged to donate RM2 for every car that comes in for inspection during this period.”

Checks at the Wangsa Maju Puspakom centre here yesterday saw many customers taking advantage of the free vehicle check programme.

Mohd Azhar, 39, who will drive back to Terengganu for Hari Raya, came to Puspakom for the free check-up.

“Everybody likes free checkups and the service is fast. It is a long trip back home, so it is better to be safe.

“There is no queue here and they don’t recommend any workshops, so I am assured that they are not making a profit by saying our car is having problems when it is not,” he said.

Car enthusiast Aliff Albani, 31, takes car safety seriously and trusts Puspakom’s check-ups.

“Their service is thorough and we get a detailed report at the end. They are not tied to any workshop, so their findings are professional. I get peace of mind as their assessment is reliable.”

Faliza Abdul Latiff, 60, said she came to Puspakom because of the free service and her mechanic suggested it as she would go on long trips for Hari Raya to visit friends and relatives.

“My car is quite old, (so) my mechanic told me to come to Puspakom for the free check-up. The service is good and I get information about my car’s condition.”

Jegadish Mariappan, 34, said although he would not be travelling during the festive break, he came for the free check-up because of the service provided by Puspakom.

“People should come to Puspakom and get the free service. They check your car thoroughly and you don’t have to wait in a queue.

“Furthermore, the customer service is good. They give you a detailed report at the end and everything is in black and white.”
