WITH the traffic buildup for balik kampung rush expected to start tomorrow, PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) has urged motorists to plan their journey ahead during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday and follow its travel time advisory (TTA) for

the North-South Expressway (NSE).

PLUS managing director Datuk Azman Ismail said TTA, which was issued to guide motorists between May 30 and June 10, was aimed at dispersing traffic and alleviating congestion caused by vehicles converging on same locations in the highway.

“Traffic will build up starting from Friday and continue towards Saturday and Sunday. The school holidays, which started early, helped (to ease congestion) to certain extent.

“However, there are many people who are still working and can go back to their hometown only starting this Friday.

“Based on our observation, traffic was smooth when more drivers followed the TTA in previous festive seasons,” he said, adding two million vehicles were expected to ply the NSE.

He advised motorists to use the PLUS app to check traffic.

“Just tap on the map to see the traffic flow. There is a 10-second delay for the visual (to appear).”

Those from the Klang Valley heading for Perlis, Kedah, Penang, (northern) Perak and Johor are advised to start their journey before 10am, while those heading for other states were encouraged to enter the NSE after 10am.

Meanwhile, motorists from Perlis, Kedah, Penang, (northern) Perak and Johor heading for Klang Valley are advised to use the NSE before 10am, while those from other states are encouraged to start their journey after 10am.

PLUS chief operating officer Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said to monitor the traffic flow, two of the four drones it bought recently would be deployed near Rawang, Sungai Perak, Slim River and Gua Tempurung.

“This is the first time we (PLUS) are using drones.

“We will start with the Hari Raya period.

“We will probably start using them for the southern part of the highway after Hari Raya.”

PLUS announced that the Ipoh stretch on the NSE was operating as usual.

“The repair works at Km272.7 (northbound) of the NSE were completed in fewer than 24 hours, and yesterday (Tuesday) about 5pm, all lanes were opened to vehicles,” it said.

Traffic information on PLUS highways is available on PLUSTrafik Twitter or PLUS Mobil or PLUS Line (toll free number) at 1800-88 - 0000.
