Ministry sacks Haziq

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Primary Industries Ministry has sacked Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz as a senior private secretary to Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

In a statement yesterday, the ministry said the termination of his contract was effective Tuesday, June 18.

“The ministry views this (Haziq’s confession) as a very serious violation of its values, ethics and the Code of Conduct, Public Officers Regulations.

“The ministry wishes to categorically assert that it will never tolerate any such scandalous behaviour among any of its staff, which brings the ministry into disrepute and odium. With this, the ministry completely dissociates itself with Haziq.”

The ministry added that it issued Haziq a show-cause letter on June 13, but was “not satisfied” with Haziq’s response.

Last Tuesday, a WhatsApp group shared video clips of two men having a sexual tryst in a hotel room.

The next day, Haziq said he was one of the two men, and alleged that the other person was Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who is PKR deputy president.

On June 13, Shamsul Iskandar told a press conference that Haziq had been suspended from his official duties.

PKR had also issued Haziq, who is Santubong PKR Youth chief, with a show-cause letter with 14 days to respond.

In Putrajaya, Azmin said he had proposed to PKR that Haziq be sacked from the party when he was allegedly found to have campaigned for Barisan Nasional in the 14th General Election.

Azmin, speaking to the press at the Prime Minister’s Department’s Hari Raya open house here yesterday, was responding to a query on why Haziq wasn’t fired from the party then.

“I cannot disagree with you. That is basic logic, and it has been asked by many people. What more can I say?”

On what he felt about PKR’s move to issue a show-cause letter to Haziq, Azmin said the decision had been made by the party.

“But it is not about me whether I am happy or not,” he added.
