THE man behind 2005’s megahit Bad Day is back! Daniel Powter is set to entertain Malaysian fans and reverse their “bad days” at 7pm on June 29 at The Bee, Publika, in Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur.

Powter rocketed to fame in 2005, when radio stations all over the world played his infectious song Bad Day.

The Canadian singer-songwriter’s monster hit charted at No. 1 in more than 40 countries and was also No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts for five consecutive weeks.

It sold more than 15 million copies and was the best selling digital single of all time in the United States.

Bad Day was also certified as the second biggest radio hit in history, and Powter, 48, won Juno awards and was nominated for Grammy and Brit awards.

Bad Day and Free Loop, the second single from his self-titled second album, received massive airplay in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

Powter grew up in Vernon, British Columbia and played the violin at the age of 4. When he was 10, he also learnt the piano.

Suffering from dyslexia, he had trouble in university reading music, and dropped out at 20 in order to pursue his own musical career, learning songs by ear and recording new melodies that he created. He started writing songs when he was 13.

His first album I’m Your Betty was released in 2000, with 10 songs.

However, it was Bad Day from his second album which made him a household name in Canada and the United States. Coca-Cola used Bad Day for an advertising campaign in Europe, and in the US, it was used extensively in reality talent show American Idol in its fifth season.

Powter even performed Bad Day final episode of American Idol Season 5 May 23, 2006.

Bad Day’s success made Powter the first solo Canadian male artiste to top the Hot 100 music charts since Bryan Adams in 1995 (with Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?).

In 2006, Powter won in the New Artiste of the Year category at the Canadian Juno Awards, and was nominated for Best International Breakthrough Act at the Brit Awards.

Bad Day was nominated at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards for Hot 100 Single of the Year, and was named Billboard magazine’s song of the year in 2006. At the 2007 Grammy Awards, Powter received a Best Male Pop Vocal Performance nomination for the song.

On Dec 1, 2010, Powter famously covered John Lennon’s Christmas song Happy Xmas (War Is Over) and the single was released in Japan and Europe.

His latest single is Survivor, released in December last year from his fourth album Giants. Other songs in this album include Perfect For Me and Delicious.

Powter’s showcase is part of his ongoing Giants Tour of Asia, and he invites Malaysian fans to have a great time singing-along with him in a very interactive show.

The singer’s music focuses on everyday life, and a lot of his songs highlight issues that face young people around the world.
