WALKER REAPS HIS REWARD

Defender signs two-year contract extension with champs City

-

KYLE Walker has signed a two-year contract extension at Manchester City worth £150,000 (RM791,000) a week.

The 29-year-old England defender still had three years left on the deal he agreed when moving from Tottenham Hotspur for £50 million in 2017, and has now committed his future to the back-toback Premier League champions until 2024.

City are likely to be in the market for another right back, with Danilo expected to leave in search of more playing time. They have been linked with a move for Joao Cancelo at Juventus.

But they wanted to reward Walker after he made 53 appearances as Pep Guardiola’s side won a domestic Treble last season.

“I’m thrilled,” said Walker. “Playing for City has been everything I’d hoped it would be and more. It was an easy decision.

“I want to be competing for trophies, playing at the highest level, and I feel I have improved hugely as a player during my time here.

“The club’s vision — both on and off the pitch — matches mine perfectly and I’m looking forward to spending the next five years here, hopefully winning more silverware.”

Oleksandr Zinchenko is set to be the next player to sign a new contract, with a five-year deal expected.

The Ukraine international helped fill in at left back last season but City still want more cover for Benjamin Mendy. They have been in talks with PSV Eindhoven over activating the buy-back clause in Angelino’s contract. They need a replacement for Vincent Kompany but have distanced themselves from reports of a move for Napoli centre back Kalidou Koulibaly as they wait to see if Leicesterwill come down on their £80 million-plus asking price for Harry Maguire.

Meanwhile, City have signed Millwall teenage winger Samuel Edozie, 16, in a deal that could rise to £1 million.
