Repurposed items for novel touch

- KATHY B.

GARDENS create essential green spaces that help you connect with nature and provide serenity outdoors. While you want your garden to be as green as possible, you can spruce it up with the use of repurposed and recycled materials.

You can use anything laying around your home and transform them into attractive looking centrepieces in the garden. This is also a good way to remove clutter from home, while bringing a novel touch to your garden.

With some old items and a lot of creativity, you can give your garden a facelift. Don’t forget to add a sense of whimsy and fun.

Once you have chosen the items and give them a touch of creativity, you can either place them on the floor within the garden or set them on top of bench, wooden barrel, or porch stairs.

GIANT TEA CUP

You can have cactus, succulent and wall plants that require very low water and care in giant tea cups. What you only need are small rocks and mixed soil — add the plants and mosaic stones as the top layer and they will make beautiful garden decor.

PLANTS ON WHEEL

If you have a wheelbarrow, a toy or decorative piece, you can turn it into a garden masterpiece by planting exotic flowers in it. You can also buy a wheelbarrow planter but make sure it is not too big that will clutter your garden or too small to fit a few plants. The wheelbarrow is not only a space for planting, it is supposed to also play a part in revamping your landscape.

A FIGURINE

You can add gnomes, fairy angels and animal figurines to make your garden lively. You can place them in a huge pot that has a range of lovely flowers.

SNAIL PLANTER

You can make your lawn creative with snail planters. Buy low price, high quality snail flower pots and add into them perennial plants that have a range of blooms to fill your garden with beautiful flowers. Snail pots is also a playful home for succulents, cacti or trailing plants.

TINS ON THE FENCE

Tins make great hanging planters to save space or nurture your little sprouts until they’re ready to be transplanted into bigger pots. Add brightly coloured flowers into empty tins and hang them from a fence! This helps make the decoration even more visible and create a little garden of their own if you have limited space to work with.

OLD CONTAINERS

If you have old, even rusty containers, you can turn them into lovely decor pieces for your garden. You can either paint the containers with vibrant colours or leave them as they are. The rule of thumb is to make the containers as colourful as possible with a variety of flowers.

DIY POTS

There are cheap and easy ways to create your own garden decor with old pots that are laying around in your garden. This simple DIY is super chic and you don’t have to be artistic to pull it off! All you need is a decorative tape, permanent markers and a little creativity.
