Super League relegation battle takes spotlight

- Farah Azharie

THE Super League has reached its crucial stage and teams in the bottom half are scrambling to avoid the relegation zone.

Former Malaysia Cup champions Kuala Lumpur are just above the relegation zone with 14 points at 10th position on goal difference ahead of 11th placed Perak SEDC while Felda United are bottom on 12.

KL hope to change their fortunes in their final four matches following three straight defeats.

On Wednesday, KL failed to make an impression in the 3-1 defeat to Terengganu in Kuala Terengganu.

Coach Chong Yee Fatt said his team have been unlucky as they have been playing good football.

“There are just four matches left, and we need to get positive results. We will try our best to earn some points and maintain our Super League status,” said the coach.

Despite the defeat on Wednesday, Yee Fatt said his players played to instructions and were disciplined in all aspects.

“We did everything right but the lapses of concentration in some periods of the match denied us a good result,” he added.

Terengganu caretaker coach Nafuzi Zain said his team need to improve defensively for the remaining matches.

They are currently seventh with 24 points.

“I felt we were not good defensively with our makeshift team. I hope to get a full strength squad for the remaining matches as some regulars are now recovering from injuries,” he said.
