Innovating packaging ideas for print tech

-

UNIVERSITI Teknologi Mara’s (UiTM) Bachelor of Printing Technology final year students showcased their innovative and creative ideas at the 37th Inventive Generation Printing Technology Degree Show 2019 recently.

The exhibition, themed INVENTIVE and participated by 43 students, presented the latest innovations in packaging products for selected companies. Students combined the basics of printing knowledge with the latest technologies in packaging.

Present at the event were UiTM Faculty of Art and Design dean Professor Dr Ruslan Abdul Rahim and SME Corporation Malaysia chief of cluster development Officer Zaky Moh.

Students needed to undergo three phases in printing — starting from pre-press to press and post-press processes — in working for the packaging for the exhibition.

Lecturers Mastura Omar and Muhammad Yusof Masod supervised the students’ creative works.

Student, Nurul Najwa Abd Wahab said her project on packaging “Annisue booster serum” gave her exposure to the importance of protecting a product through its packaging.

At the same time, she included information of the product using a quick response (QR) code application on the packaging for consumers.

“The combination of this technology (QR code) for packaging products is the latest trend in the printing industry. This will allow consumers to experience information sharing through a different medium,” she said.

Another student, Ahmad Marwan

Muda, said through his invention, titled “An innovation of packaging without using glue for Fantasy Kazen Solutions”, he hoped that his innovative packaging method could increase orders and become a benchmark for local product brands.

“This is a package designed through shapes and sizes of cutting edge parts that can be bonded without glue,” he said.

Siti Norzahana Roszaini said her invention, “An innovation of skincare packaging”, was aimed at meeting customers’ demand for recyclable packaging.

She said it had a space-saving element, which could free up an area for products on display.

Nur Hafifi Mohd Noor, through his project titled “Innovation of sleeve packaging with carrier in food industry”, said his invention was aimed at maintaining product image.

He said the package boasted an attractive design which boosts a product or a brand’s quality perception.

“This prototype features an innovative design where it can be folded flat for storage purposes,” he added.

The event was held at GESTURZ (Lakeside Gallery) Kompleks Alam Bina & Seni Reka at the UiTM campus in Puncak Alam.
