Who’s the fairest one of all?
Skin whitening products may not be her cup of tea but Meera Murugesan finds they work just as well for hydration
“CREATING perfectly white skin”. That’s the first thing which caught my eye when I read the description of a product called Dr Wu Glutalight Whitening System.
Can we actually create white skin? Do women even believe in that anymore? Let me say up front that I have no interest in “whitening” my skin.
I’m perfectly fine with the colour of my complexion. Skin whitening, or rather lightening or brightening (as they are now called to be more politically correct) products, have been around since I was a teenager and many people with tanned or dark skin (whom I know) have tried them at some point in their lives.
The quest to look “fairer” is a never ending one for some girls but most end up defeated. There is no product that’s going to change your natural skin tone and if it does, you better be wary of what it contains.
For me, what matters is the ability of
a product to even out skin tone and make dark spots less visible. That, by itself will lead to a naturally brighter complexion.
I believe in looking good in my own skin and whatever products help with that are most welcome.
Glutathione has long been consumed orally as an antioxidant rich skin lightening supplement and also as the main ingredient in skin whitening injections. This range seems to promise the same effects without the invasive procedures.
THE QUEST FOR BEAUTY
I tried the moisturiser and eye cream from this range. The Intensive Whitening Lotion, as it is called, has a lightweight creamy texture and the bottle comes with a nozzle dispenser for easy use. It’s supposed to decrease the appearance of pigmentation and soothe and moisturise skin.
This product wins hands down when it comes to texture. It has a beautiful light texture that makes it easy to apply and feels very pleasant on the skin. It looks like a light gel but has good hydration abilities.
I like the fact that it doesn’t make my make-up streak and keeps my combination skin looking fresh.
Weeks of using this product hasn’t given me porcelain like skin (more a Japanese or Korean aspiration I would assume) but my skin feels and looks much better than before. There’s less dryness and definitely better hydration.
The Whitening Eye Serum has the same gel-like light texture of the moisturiser and is aimed at reducing the appearance of dark circles around the eyes.
Which woman doesn’t struggle with panda eyes? And as you age, it becomes a permanent feature on your face no matter how much sleep you get.
This eye cream feels cool and soothing on the under eye area and is good to use twice a day. I hate creamy formulas under the eye, nothing could be more uncomfortable than that and because this eye cream is so light, you can even use a little more than normal.
My dark circles haven’t disappeared but they look slightly lighter than before. More importantly, my under eye area is well hydrated.
I would say give this range a go even if fairer skin is not your goal. The best products are those that feel good on the skin and this one did the trick for me.
