THE delicacy known as the mooncake, a round pastry usually made from calorific Chinese staples such as red bean or lotus seed paste, has been a part of Chinese culture for more than 3,000 years. In celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival, families and friends will gather around and enjoy the most tantalising mooncakes.

This year, Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur offers traditional baked favourites and snowskin varieties specially prepared by the team at Shang Palace.

Themed Shang Glamour, it’s about marrying the Chinese cultural celebration with modern interpretations on the mooncake flavour selections. A selection of elegantly created mooncakes, including contemporary mooncakes designed by the Executive Pastry Chef of Shang Palace, combine playful appearance with multi-layered filling of surprising textures

and flavours this season — contemporary mooncakes are taken to the next level with the luxurious durian iterations.

The Shang Palace Mooncake Gift Set features two new flavours: White Lotus Seed Paste with Lava Salted Egg follow the traditional recipe, are meticulously crafted with silky smooth white lotus seed paste and rich with lava salted egg and Ping

Pei White Lotus Paste with Beetroot and Single Yolk. Apart from that, the snowskin collection is a refreshing series of delights with a punch of modern infusion.

The mooncakes are available individually, as well as in collectible gift boxes and flavours including Red Bean, Lotus Seed Paste Single Yolk, Lotus Seed Paste Double Yolk, White Lotus Seed Paste, White Lotus Seed Paste Single Yolk, and Assorted Nuts & Sun-dried Fruits.
