PLUS secures Seda’s One Diamond award for low-carbon building
PLUS Malaysia Bhd’s headquarters, Persada PLUS, has recently bagged the One Diamond award from Malaysia Sustainable Energy Development Authority (Seda) under the latter’s 2018 Low Carbon Buildings Assessment.
This makes PLUS the first highway concessionaire in the country to receive such recognition.
The company said the recognition was accorded to organisations that had successfully implemented electricity-saving initiatives and reduced carbon dioxide emissions via the use of renewable energy alternatives.
All the buildings were judged based on the percentage reduction in their annual carbon dioxide emissions that led to lower energy consumption.
Last year, PLUS said it had reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 6.75 per cent, equivalent to 286.78 tonnes of carbon dioxide, and saved 413,228 kilowatt hour of energy at Persada PLUS via the installation of Variable Speed Drives for its air-conditioning systems.
It also reduced the air-conditioning systems’ usage time, developed solar photovoltaic (PV) technology, implemented delamping (reducing/relocating fluorescent lamps in locations with adequate lighting and where lighting is not required) and installed motion-sensor lightings in toilets and prayer rooms.
PLUS managing director Datuk Azman Ismail said this was another milestone for the company in its efforts to optimise green technology use in preserving the environment for its employees and communities in the surrounding area.
“Our (green) roadmap will also see PLUS introducing solar PV panels at rest areas such as the Sungai Buloh and Ayer Keroh overhead bridge restaurants, Dengkil R&R (rest and relax area) (both bounds), Gurun R&R (both bounds), Gunung Semanggol R&R (southbound), Tapah R&R (both bounds) and Ayer Keroh R&R (northbound) within the next five years,” he said in a statement.
The PLUS Green Roadmap started when PLUS launched Malaysia’s first solar-powered electric vehicle charging station at the Ayer Keroh overhead bridge restaurant (southbound) in December last year and transformed the Machap (northbound) R&R into the first R&R in the country to use solar PV panels in April. .
