Afgan live in Kuala Lumpur

INDONESIAN crooner Afgansyah Reza or Afgan will be back in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 5, after a successful fourth solo concert at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre last year. His new concert, Inspirasi 2019 - Afgan Live In Kuala Lumpur, will once again feature one of his idols, legendary Malaysian singer Datuk Sheila Majid with whom he shared the stage with in Konsert Suara Hati Afgan in 2015.

Afgan’s upcoming concert, to be held at HGH Convention Centre, Jalan Sentul, KL, is presented by Popcorn Studio, the company which organised his successful collaborat­ion with his fellow Indonesian singers Ungu, Konsert Terunggul Afgan & Ungu at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam in 2017.

Born on May 27, 1989, Afgan who is from the Minangkaba­u region of Sumatra, is also a lyricist and an actor. He released his first album Confession No. 1 in 2008. His second album, The One, came two years later, and to date he has put out four studio albums.

Confession No.1 was a mix of jazz, pop and R&B, and it contained hit singles Terima Kasih Cinta, Klise, Sadis and Tanpa Batas Waktu. Afgan won Best Solo Male Vocalist Award at Anugerah Musik Indonesia 2009 and Best Male Artiste at the Anugerah Planet Muzik 2009. In the same year, he made his first foray into acting when he appeared in the film Bukan Cinta Biasa with

Olivia Jensen and sang the title track.

The following year, he appeared in Cinta

2 Hati and even performed the movie’s title track. In 2011, Afgan performed the theme song of the Southeast Asian Games in Palembang, Sumatra. The talented artiste has also been a judge in reality talent shows and talent searches on Indonesian television. He was a judge in Rising Star

Indonesia Season 1 in 2014 and X Factor

Indonesia in 2015.

In an interview last year, Afgan said that he was discovered at a karaoke centre in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, in 2007. “Before then, I was an introvert. A shy teenager who liked to keep to myself. Not even my parents knew that I could sing,” he said.

Besides Sheila, Afgan cites Michael Jackson, Tevin Campbell and Boyz II Men as his favourite singers. He also admires award-winning Malaysian singers Anuar Zain and Yuna.
