Rapid Rail staff to wear sarong

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Staff of Rapid Rail who are on duty on Monday will be donning the sarong to promote national unity and add joy to the “Keretapi Sarong 19” event which will be held in conjunction with Malaysia Day.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd group chief operating officer (operations) Muhammad Nizam Alias said yesterday the initiative was organised by community group Local Companion with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Rapid Rail transports more than 1.2 million passengers every day, including more than 700,000 rail passengers in Kuala Lumpur through Rapid KL.

“The sarong is a good symbol of Malaysian unity because it is used by all communities in the country and accepted by people of all levels of society.”

Nizam said all the staff on duty at the stations and manning the trains on Sept 16 would have the sarong with them, either batik or pelikat.

Clad in sarong, they will take part in various activities such as singing patriotic songs, reciting pantun and dancing.

Participants who wish to join the event can board the train at five selected stations — Kajang MRT Station, Bandar Utama MRT Station, Gombak LRT Station, Subang LRT Station and Ampang LRT Station at 9am and head to the Pasar Seni integrated station.

From there, they will move in a group to a location which will be announced on the day of the event.

“As we are expecting a big crowd of passengers, participants and others who are interested in the event are encouraged to use the My100 travel pass and the Touch ‘n Go card to enjoy a smooth journey,” said Nizam.
