‘Grundfos pumps can reduce energy consumption’

- Zuliantie Dzul

KUALA LUMPUR: Denmark-based pump manufacturer Grundfos believes its MAGNA3 and TPE3 pumps will meet the demand for energy-efficient solutions.

Both products, under its distributed pumping system (DPS) range, can intelligently control energy consumption.

Grundfos Asia-Pacific regional business director (building services) Anders Christiansen said conventional cooling systems are not sustainable in today’s climate crisis.

“The growing demand for airconditioning in emerging economies will drive up to 64 per cent increase in household energy use and produce 23.1 million tonnes of carbon emissions by 2040,” he said at a briefing in Singapore recently.

Christiansen said current cooling systems consume large amounts of energy, usually derived from fossil fuels, thereby aggravating climate change.

“With sustainability being a very key part of Grundfos’ DNA, our DPS demonstrates our commitment to create cleaner and more energy-efficient technologies to enable our customers to reduce their energy consumption and limit their impact on the environment,” he said.

The pumping system is capable of operating at optimised conditions by intuitively regulating the water flow via data feedback from temperature sensors, meeting the exact requirements of different building zones and controlling energy consumption.

TPE3 is a dry-runner, vertical, inline pump used as a primary pump while MAGNA3 is a wetrunner circulator used as a secondary pump.

The pumping system was fitted at Grundfos’ headquarters in Singapore, and from November 2016 to May 2017, the building achieved 55 per cent in energy savings.
