Hollywood takeover
OH, Hollywood’s elite. They’re everywhere — on the silver screen to the small screen and even on our phone screens. In recent years, celebrities have dipped their toes in the beauty arena, whether through an alliance with a famous brand or releasing their own make-up line.
Celebrity cosmetics lines attract enthusiasts but why?
There are many similar products and the market is saturated.
Perhaps the answer lies in the wow factor — wearing something that carries your favourite star’s brand heightens your cool factor.
Celebrities harnessing their star power for the beauty industry has led to lots of success.
We’ve heard about Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line, J.Lo collaborating with Inglot and Kylie Jenner’s famous gothic themed make-up line, Kat Von D.
Here are the latest celebrities joining the bandwagon:
HILARY DUFF
Did you know that she invested in the make-up brand Nudestix alongside fellow celebrity Chelsea Handler?
Duff, the Lizzie McGuire star, has released a make-up line in collaboration with the family-owned brand.
Called Daydreamer, the range includes a Nudies Matte All-Over Blush, Nudies Glow All-Over Highlighter, three Magnetic Luminous Eye Colours, and a Gel Colour Lip and Cheek Balm.
The Hollywood star told Women’s Wear Daily that the colours for the collection are a nod to the fall season.
“There are a lot of pink and ethereal tones.
I’m a California girl and everything is like bronze and golden, and I’m sick of that. I want pearlised tones.”
There’s no word yet if the collection will make its way here but you can check it out on Nudestix’s website and order online.
VICTORIA BECKHAM
From her luxe fashion brand, Posh Spice or Victoria Beckham rolled out her cosmetics line called Victoria Beckham Beauty on the same day as the London Fashion Week catwalk presentation for her Victoria Beckham Spring/Summer 2020 ready-towear line.
The products from the beauty line are as chic as her fashion line.
They are housed in sturdy glass and the eyeshadow palettes have a unique brass, tortoiseshell finish. But beyond its modern luxury appeal, the line is sustainable and non-toxic.
In the early stage of the launch, the line released three products inspired by Victoria’s iconic smoky eye. In the months to follow, there will be lip products followed by skincare and perfume.
LADY GAGA
News of her beauty line had been the talk of town for a while but now the products have been officially launched after months of teasing.
Named Haus Laboratories (Haus Labs), the line created by Gaga and her longtime make-up artist Sarah Tanno is a collection of multi-use products inspired by stage make-up.
Six products are available from Haus Labs: the RIP Lipliner made with an ultra-creamy formula; Glam Attack, a liquid-to-powder pearly glitter eyeshadow; Le Riot Lip Gloss, a moisturising formula; Armor Masque, an intricate eye sticker; Liquid Eye-Lie-Ner, a felt-tip liner; and the Eye Armor Kit, a set of the liner which comes with eyeliner stickers to help women nail the perfect cat-eye.
MILLIE BOBBY BROWN
The Stranger Things star has come under fire recently for supposedly “faking” a skincare routine video using products from her skincare line called Florence by Mills.
With the immense success enjoyed by some of her seniors in Hollywood like Rihanna and Kylie, how does Millie set her brand apart from the rest?
This beauty brand, which consists of cosmetics and skincare, is catered for Generation Z.
The star believes there’s a void in the market for young people and thinks everyone deserves a great start with their skin.
The first offerings from the brand include nine skincare essentials and four make-up products which include facial mist, moisturiser, mask, eye balm, eye gel pads, face scrub, face wash, cleansing gel, treatment pads and lip oil. The make-up range includes a skin tint, concealer, cream blush and brow gel.
