3 security staff remanded over theft at M-Cycle Grand Prix

-

PUTRAJAYA: Three security staff have been remanded until tomorrow to assist in a probe over a recent theft case at the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport District police chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkifli Adamshah said the trio were detained after they gave their statements to the police on Sunday.

“All three, aged between 20 and 30, are Malaysians. They were the on-duty security personnel when the theft took place.

“We have obtained the remand order from the Sepang magistrate’s court,” he said.

Sepang International Circuit (SIC) on Saturday had confirmed that several teams competing in the Moto2 and Moto3 category of the world championships were affected by the theft, which was believed to have happened early on Friday morning in the paddock area.

SIC chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali was reported as saying the incident had happened early Friday morning between 1am and 6am. He said five or six teams were affected.

He also did not discount the possibility that the thieves had international links as they were very selective with the parts they took.

He said reselling the stolen parts, which are specifically made for prototype Moto2 and Moto3 machines, would require in-depth knowledge and contacts within the racing fraternity. Razlan had told the New Straits

Times yesterday that they received new information regarding the incident, and had forwarded the leads to the police.

“Following the media interest in the case, we have received one or two (new) leads through our general enquiry email,” said Razlan.

“Someone wrote in to our customer service email, provided information and even included a picture.

“We have passed on the information to the police to investigate.”
