MANAGEMENT OF LOKMAN’S CONTEMPT CASE ON NOV 22
Umno Supreme Council member’s lawyer asks for time as more affidavits were filed on Nov 5
THE case management of a committal proceedings initiated by Attorney-General (A-G) Tan Sri Tommy Thomas against Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam for allegedly threatening a witness in the corruption trial of Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been fixed on Nov 22.
Najib’s former special officer, Datuk Amhari Efendi Nazaruddin, was one of the key witnesses against the former prime minister involving the misappropriation of RM2.28 billion of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds.
High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah set the date after counsel Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohammed, who represented Lokman, informed the court that the defence had just received additional affidavits from the prosecution on Tuesday.
“Because the additional affidavits had just been served to us, we need time to deliberate whether to make an application to set aside the committal proceedings or reply to them,” he said.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustafa P. Kunyalam said the prosecution would amend a notice of motion regarding the committal proceedings.
On Oct 22, Sequerah allowed the A- G to initiate committal proceedings against Lokman.
Thomas filed an application for leave on Oct 10 to initiate the proceedings over Lokman’s alleged contempt of court perpetrated on two occasions on Sept 25. In the application, Thomas sought an order that Lokman be committed to prison or fined for contempt.
The A-G said on Sept 25, Lokman, in a video interview, uttered words implying a threat against Amhari for having given evidence against Najib in the trial.
