SEREMBAN: The Health Ministry, through its Food Safety and Quality Division, will look into the report of harmful chemicals found in cheap plastic food containers and toys sold in the country. Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said if the said plastic material was found to be able to contaminate food and drink with harmful chemicals, the ministry would take action under the Food Act 1983 and Food Hygiene Regulations 2009. “I have to look at the report first and we will make a decision after we go through the division’s findings,” he said after officiating at the Healthy Lifestyle Carnival for the Paroi state constituency here yesterday. On calls for plastic products manufacturers to declare the chemical content in their products, Dzulkefly said he would discuss the matter with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
