3R PLATFORM GETS 21,296 INPUTS

80pc of inputs contain racist elements, while 20pc relate to religion

- KUALA LUMPUR

IN just six weeks after the establishment of the 3R (Race, Religion and Royalty) platform on Aug 17, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has received 21,296 inputs, including complaints, from the public.

The platform enabled Malaysians to give information on the dissemination of sensitive contents to ensure fast action could be taken against those involved to safeguard harmony, said the Communications and Multimedia Ministry at the Dewan Rakyat here yesterday.

It said this in a written reply to a question from Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri (Gabungan Parti SarawakBatang Sadong), who wanted to know steps taken to ensure Internet users did not abuse racial and religious issues for political gain.

The written answer was read out by Works Minister Baru Bian after Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Eddin Syazlee Shith, who was scheduled to provide the reply, experienced breathing difficulties and was rushed to the National Heart Institute yesterday morning.

According to the ministry, 19,968 inputs were being validated, while 259 inputs had been resolved with some referred to other authorities for the next course of action.

It said based on MCMC’s observation, 80 per cent of the inputs received contained racist elements, while the remaining 20 per cent were related to religion.

At the same time, the commission was educating Malaysians to use social media responsibly.

The 3R platform, available via the WhatsApp mobile application at 016-220 6262 or its email at mediasosial@mcmc.gov.my, is part of efforts to prevent the dissemination of fake news relating to sensitive issues.
