Tryke e-scooter makes Klang Valley debut

- Amirul Hazmi

Transportation Sdn Bhd has officially launched the Tryke electric scooter (e-scooter) in Cyberjaya.

The e-scooter’s Malaysian debut follows its pilot stage in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, in June.

The latest shared mobility solution is aimed at providing a convenient, safe and sustainable mode of travelling for short distances in and around the city.

At the launch Tryke founder Timothy Wong said: “Our service will complement the smart city ecosystem of Cyberjaya in terms of first and last-mile connectivity for its residents.

“Tryke e-scooters are the cheapest, fastest and cleanest way to travel short distances below 5km, allowing users to beat the worsening traffic congestion, while also reducing the community’s dependence on motorised vehicles.”

Organised by PLANMalaysia and Cyberview, the soft launch of Tryke service was conducted in conjunction with the Smart City RAP Programme 2019 and officiated by PLANMalaysia directorgeneral Datuk Mohd Anuar Maidin at RekaScape here.

To begin a ride, customers will first need to download the Tryke mobile application and select any available Tryke e-scooter, before unlocking it using a code from the app.

There will be a RM1 unlocking fee, followed by a base fee of RM0.30 per minute, until the e-scooter is returned to any of the designated spots.

Users who wish to have unlimited rides can do so by subscribing to daily, weekly or monthly passes with a fee of RM9.99, RM39 and RM99 respectively.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable ride experience, Tryke encourages users to ride only on pedestrian pavements and bicycle lanes. Speed limit and traffic laws must always be obeyed.

Tryke users must ride within designated zones, as the e-scooters are equipped with real-time tracking devices, so users who venture out of the zones will trigger an alarm on the vehicle.

For the time being, Tryke scooters are available from 20 pick-up locations within Cyberjaya, and at several university campuses.
