Sanichi to build halal gelatin industrial park in Melaka

-

MELAKA: Sanichi Technology Bhd’s subsidiary, BCA International Sdn Bhd, is building its first halal gelatin plant and halal gelatin industrial park in Malaysia and Asean, to be known as the Melaka Halal Gelatin Industrial Park.

BCA chief executive officer Mohd Hanif Tan said the industrial park would house a halal gelatin plant with downstream industrial activities for diverse industries, including food, pharmaceutical, hard capsule and industrial.

BCA has identified a 85.79ha site in Kuala Linggi, Alor Gajah, with suitable amenities and infrastructure.

It said the company, with Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Melaka as its strategic partner, was finalising the land acquisition from Pembangunan Pertanian Melaka Sdn Bhd.

The development would be carried out in two phases over the next five years. Operations at the halal gelatin plant is expected to commence by mid-2021 and will have a production value of RM250 million a year.

The industrial park will be completed by 2025 and have a gross development value of RM1.3 billion.

Hanif said the capital-intensive investment would provide a natural barrier of entry against competition from other players in the lucrative niche market.

Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof recently called on entrepreneurs to venture into the niche halal gelatin industry to fulfil demand in the domestic and export markets.
