Wanita PH can’t wait to get going
KOTA KINABALU: The Pakatan Harapan women’s wing is ready to campaign in the Kimanis parliamentary by-election next month.
Wanita PH information chief Senator Aiman Athirah Al-Jundi said preparations at the national and state levels had been top notch, and the coalition’s election machinery would be mobilised on nomination day on Jan 4.
She said Wanita PH would work with allies from the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Organisation (Upko) and Parti Warisan Sabah.
“Kimanis has been a Barisan Nasional stronghold. We believe with close cooperation and smart campaign strategies, we can wrest the seat from BN.
“We want to send a message to the chief minister (Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal) that we can’t wait to go to the ground and ensure victory for the candidate, regardless of whether he is from PH or Warisan,” she said at a press conference yesterday.
Earlier, Aiman, who is also Angkatan Wanita Amanah Negara chief, chaired a meeting to discuss the coalition’s women’s wing preparations.
Present was Sabah DAP Women chief Janie Lasimbang, who was nominated as Wanita PH’s operation committee director for the by-election.
Like other by-elections, Aiman said its involvement was not merely to garner voter support, but also to help engage people on the ground.
“This is an opportunity for us to learn about the people and their situation.
“Although we are the government, there may be issues that we don’t know of, particularly in Kimanis.
“Therefore, this is a chance for us to provide our service to constituents and to understand their needs. This is to enable us to serve them better.”
With the Kadazandusun community representing 45 per cent of voters in Kimanis, Janie said it would focus on meeting people at tamu (weekly markets) and outreach programmes in villages.
“The tamu is an important place because we can meet various communities there. The Chinese New Year celebration is also around the corner.
“We will demonstrate unity and reach as many communities as we can. We are ready.”
