Restaurant customer finds maggots in fried chicken

-

KUALA LANGAT: It was double trouble for a restaurant here when the authorities not only discovered it had served a patron fried chicken with maggots but also found that its kitchen was infested with cockroaches.

In less than two hours after a 3pm raid yesterday, the restaurant located in Telok Panglima Garang was ordered to shut down by the Kuala Langat District Council (MDKL) to avoid food poisoning and contamination.

MDKL assistant health officer Noor Hayati Ibrahim said the raid shocked more than a dozen customers who were having their tea break at the restaurant, which had been operating for two years.

MDKL president Mohamad Zain A. Hamid said the council would not hesitate to order the shutting down of unhygienic eateries.

“The restaurant was instructed to close for 14-days for cleaning works. It was served with a compound and the closure of the premises was done under the MDKL Food Establishment (2007) by-law.”

The raiding team inspected the restaurant after a man posted a video of him enjoying his “mee goreng” with fried chicken.

However, he stopped eating after discovering maggots wriggling on a piece of fried chicken.

One of the man’s friends called a restaurant worker and was overheard saying, “What do you want us to do? How can you serve us with this?”

The worker was then seen taking the plate away.

The 1.27-minute video, which was posted on My Kuala Langat Facebook page, received more than 35,000 views.
