RapidKL taking measures to minimise virus exposure risk to commuters

-

RapidKL has taken extra measures to minimise the risk of exposure to the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) for the one million people who use its bus and train services daily.

RapidKL implemented routine morning health checks for bus captains as a precautionary measure to ensure staff wellbeing.

Rapid Bus chief executive officer Muhammad Yazurin Sallij said the mandatory health check for bus captains every morning was introduced in the third week of last month.

“We provide daily briefings to bus captains on the latest information on the virus. We ask them to keep a lookout for passengers displaying symptoms and adhere to standard operating procedures in emergency situations involving passengers.

“This routine is carried out at all seven RapidKL depots and by Rapid Penang, Rapid Kuantan, Rapid Kamunting and Rapid Manjung,” he said at Kompleks Rapid Bus Cheras Selatan here yesterday.

Yazurin said bus captains were provided with face masks and only those certified healthy were allowed to work, while those who were unwell were advised to seek medical treatment immediately.

Hand sanitisers were also provided to passengers using the RapidKL Airport Shuttle buses between Kuala Lumpur International Airport and klia2, he said.

For Rapid Rail, announcements on the virus were displayed on monitors in Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and monorail trains.

Rapid Rail chief executive officer Abdul Hadi Amran said all trains were cleaned thoroughly during engineering hours from 1am to 4.30am and from 5.30am to 6.30am, when cleaners would clear rubbish and sanitise stations and platforms.

“The cleanliness of our trains and public facilities has always been our priority, including escalator handrails and elevator buttons, which are disinfected three times a day.

“Our washrooms are cleaned 18 times throughout the day, with additional cleaning carried out as needed,” he said, adding that hand sanitisers were provided to the public at staff counters.

He advised the public to maintain their personal hygiene when entering public areas such as LRT or MRT stations.
