More concerts, shows cancelled, postponed over Covid-19 fears

KUALA LUMPUR: Besides Hong Kong singer Miriam Yeung’s March 21 concert and that of Indian maestro Ilaiyaraaj­a scheduled for today, several entertainm­ent events at popular venues around the Klang Valley have also been cancelled or postponed.

The Malaysian Philharmon­ic Orchestra’s concert “Beethoven: The Early Symphonies” at Dewan Filharmoni­k Petronas (DFP) in KLCC last night was also cancelled.

DFP, in a statement, said the classical concert at 8.30pm featuring conductor Jun Märkl, violinist Clara-Jumi Kang and the orchestra had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Two events at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre in Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya, have been cancelled, namely Gasp on March 26 and 27, and Ambaa The Penance on April 4 and 5. Gasp, organised by the French Embassy and presented by Compagnie Circocentr­ique, is a twoman show with circus performanc­es and poetry.

Ambaa The Penance presented by Krithika Ramachandr­an and Shabin Bright is a dance drama that portrays the journey of the Hindu goddess Parvati.

Resorts World Genting also announced that it had reschedule­d four concerts — Kenny G Live In Malaysia 2020 (Feb 16), Wynners Love Live In Genting (Feb 22), Khalil Fong World Tour 2020 (March 7) and Will Pan Coming Home Concert Tour In Malaysia (today).

These concerts were postponed to Oct 18, Dec 12, June 16, and July 25, respective­ly.

Yeung’s concert was supposed to be held at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, and had previously been postponed from a February date.

It was jointly organised by Unusual Production­s, Star Planet, and Live Nation.

Ilaiyaraaj­a’s concert at the Malaysia Internatio­nal Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur was postponed to June 20.

Stand-up comedian Phoon Chi Ho had also postponed his latest showcase.

A statement on Facebook from the producers of Phoon’s show,

Creepy Again, said the March 23 show had been postponed to July 18 due to Covid-19 concerns.

The venue will still be at PJ Live Arts in Jaya One, Jalan Universiti, Petaling Jaya.
